Bert has been involved in recovery and the recovery community for over a decade. He started his vocation by managing recovery houses for a recovery society in East Vancouver.
Hoping to gain more experience and education, Bert transitioned into working overnights at Vancouver’s Downtown East Side for 1.5 years. Bert became accustomed to regularly administering naloxone and applying his first aid skills to help clients. In 2017, Bert decided to continue working in recovery and took on the role of a support staff member at a local treatment centre. Today, he manages a treatment program focused on helping those with complex PTSD and substance misuse issues regain their confidence, learn new coping skills, and access critical mental health services.
Focused on learning new skills for recovery, Bert has completed the CANAM Interventions Training and Skills 101 Certificate program and advanced training programs at the Crisis Centre of BC for applied suicide prevention training.
In 2021, Bert received his designation as a CCAC from the CACCF.
